In the spring of 2005, several attorneys from Allen, Norton & Blue, P.A. in Tallahassee, Florida formed a yet-to-be-named barbeque team to take part in a local charitable event initiated by local attorney, and new team member, Chris Barkas. While the initial results were mixed, the enthusiasm and determination to create the area's finest barbeque remained.
In 2006, using the combined experience of all team members, and several secret ingredients, the team once again took part in the Tallahassee Smoke-Off. Despite the stiff competition (and cocktails), the results were greatly improved. The team took home the first place trophy for Best Overall Pork behind Hospitality Chairman Michael Mattimore's longstanding family recipe.
Following the 2006 championship effort, the pressure mounted and expectations rose as the 2007 competiton grew near. Once again, the closely held barbequed pork recipe did not disappoint as the team took home hardware in the Overall Pork category, and were now recognized as the team that "can flat out cook some bbq".
Based upon the prior success, team leaders decided to adopt an appropriate team name. After several long brainstorming sessions and even more rejected names, the team agreed on calling themselves the "Red Red Swine". While the origin of the name might be debated for years, the results in later competitions cannot. The team now holds four consecutive championships, earning their most recent title for Best Overall Ribs in the 2008 Capital City Cook-off in Tallahassee, Florida.
The Red Red Swine are committed to developing barbeque that challenges the tastebuds while maintaining traditional southern charm. The team now sets its sites on future competitions and looks forward to bringing their award winning flavors to a backyard barbeque near you.
